Conversational Agent that Models a Historical Personality

چکیده
In this paper we discuss the current approaches in question answering (QA) and their applicability in building a conversational agent that models a historical figure that gives informative and relevant answers to user questions about the life of that personality. We analyze two main methods: one in which we use an ontology to build our knowledge base and one where we don't have a knowledge base and we solve the answer sentence selection problem for question answering. We observed that the first method is better for answering more general questions and the second method can deal with more specific and complex lexically and syntactically questions. The implementation of the conversational agent relies on the two combined approaches, the second being a fallback option if the first method is not able to provide an answer. Author

Personality in Embodied Conversational Agents: Effects on User Experience
Successfulness of an Embodied Conversational Agent depends of different variables. Personality is one of these variables. By focusing on user experience instead of personality creation, the effect of personality on the potential success of an agent can be measured. Credibility of the agent is a key factor for its successfulness. Based on a user experiment (N=40), it is possible to conclude that...
متن کاملModeling Emotional State and Personality for Conversational Agents
We describe an architecture for constructing a character-based agent based on speech and graphical interactions. The architecture uses models of emotions and personality encoded as Bayesian networks to 1) diagnose the emotions and personality of the user, and 2) generate appropriate behavior by an automated agent in response to the user’s input. Classes of interaction that are interpreted and/o...
متن کاملCan Conversational Agents Express Big Five Personality Traits through Language?: Evaluating a Psychologically-Informed Language Generator
Conversation is an essential component of social behavior, one of the primary means by which humans express intentions, beliefs, emotions, attitudes and personality. Thus a key technical capability for dialogue-based conversational agents for interactive entertainment, therapeutic, or learning applications is the ability to support natural conversational interaction. To do so, natural language ...
متن کاملAgent Personality Traits in Virtual Environments Based on Appraisal Theory Predictions
The current work investigates issues of expressivity and personality traits for Embodied Conversational Agents in environments that allow for dynamic interactions with human users. Such environments are defined and modelled with the use of state of the art game engine technology. We focus on generating simple ECA behaviours, comprised of facial expressions and gestures in a well defined context...
متن کاملParleE: An Adaptive Plan Based Event Appraisal Model of Emotions
We propose ParleE, a quantitative, flexible and adaptive model of emotions for a conversational agent in a multi-agent environment capable of multimodal communication. ParleE appraises events based on learning and a probabilistic planning algorithm. ParleE also models personality and motivational states and their role in determining the way the agent experiences emotion.
